Today's women's soccer game was quintessential of when the chips are down and all hope seems lost. However, Team USA has a player named Hope (SOLO) who does not stop believing and playing and slaps us all back into reality (to stop being bleak) and gives her team new life. Let's not forget Wambach and Rapinoe either; they never stopped believing and trying; no one on the team ever did!!!
Marta and company needs to learn a lesson in humility once and for all, and until they learn to play like world-class champions (win or lose), they will never earn the respect given to the likes. They might win a World Cup one day, but if their lousy and putrid attitudes do not match the class it takes to take on such an honor, they will fail at being referred to as champions; that classification, in spirit, will always elude them!
The one thing which truly does bother this soccer (futbol) fanatic about Marta and company is this...why do they insist on bearing the five stars so proudly on their chest above their logo like they do!?! And why after failing to have won a World Cup to date, do they continue to play so entitled-like and act like they are the best!?! Just because Marta is considered the best player in the world and has won the respective accolades, it just does not give her or her [Brazilian] team the right to act like bullies and to constantly complain; much less does it give them the right to carry on with such an ego trip. Personally I believe Marta [and company] has a chip on their shoulders; knowing deep down that wearing the five stars is not befitting them; that they have lacked and still continue to lack in bringing pride to their country as the men's [Brazilian] team has done.
So to Team Brazil [Marta and co.] I say this, just stop wearing the 5 stars already! You clearly have NOT earned the five stars. You say you do it out of respect for what your men's [Brazilian] team has done and as a show of so-called "unification". REALLY!?! Pelé should be offended and not so proud of your so-called "unification" especially because of your contemptible attitudes. In fact Pelé himself has only contributed to 3 out of the 5 WC's which Brazil has won for the right to don the 5 stars on their jerseys; he never tried taking credit for the 5. On opposite sides of the spectrum, Team USA [women] have earned the 2 stars they wear above their logo and they wear it with pride, blood, sweat and tears!!! ...I no longer have any respect for Marta (Erika, Cristiane, Daiane). This World Cup woke me up to their despicable, unscrupulous attitudes; they plain ole just suck, but they sure do like to complain about the other teams. Their lack of maturity makes their complaints that much more malicious and belligerent and so foul (pardon the pun). Worse yet is the way they celebrate. I have no problem with players celebrating after accomplishing something great - a smart goal, a sound victory and such, but what does anger me is when the player(s) like Marta and company do so in such a blatant, antagonistic manner: "in your face"! Marta is no Mia Hamm! Mia had/has class. Mia never reacted so low nor like she was better than her team-mates much less better than other players on other teams; Mia respected the game, the players, the accolades, the victories, the losses, the associations and such. Grow up, Marta, and start playing and leading like a winner and one day you might just be a true champion!
Inspiring is the only way to describe the way Team USA would eventually attain the equalizer (thanks to a nice pass from Rapinoe to our one and only Wambach who got the tying goal after they were down 2-1) that they so direly needed in over-time, stoppage time actually (thanks to the Brazilian Erika's under-handed dramatics; another one of Brazil's bitter and honor-lacking player). The real kicker (pardon the pun -again) was how Team USA showed patience and belief in themselves - belief in their team and without giving things a second thought as they knew what needed to be done so they did it, they got the ultimate win as things wound down to penalty kicks and Team USA won the war 5-3 pk's.
Yes indeed all the terrible penalty calls which went against Team USA were made just in the end as destiny intervened and would not deny the true victors of today's game their ultimate triumph on this fine day!!!

As I recited that same line in the privacy of my living room with Sara next to me doing the same, it was evident that many fanatics of soccer (Americans and non) in the stadium -and maybe around the world- were yelling the same thing. Perhaps supporting our American players in protest of the bad officiating taking place against Team USA on this day plus being disgusted by the Brazilian player's bad behavior. Or - maybe so many became fans of our "come-back girls" as Team USA's patience stayed intact and allowed their anger instead to overcome adversity to lift them to victory instead of allowing it to hinder their play and to cloud their better judgment. Whatever it was, it was evident that many fans had just about had it with the terrible calls against Team USA. As the FIFA officials screwed up calls that could have cost the U.S. a win, destiny came around and made things right!!! My motto "you cannot have what you have not earned" proved righteous in the end. Team Brazil was NOT going to win this game as unjustly as it had been served up to them! Marta and company did not merely wake a sleeping giant on this day with their putrid tactics, they pissed off the giant!******************************************
Which reminds me and leads me to give some gentle advice...The one thing which truly does bother this soccer (futbol) fanatic about Marta and company is this...why do they insist on bearing the five stars so proudly on their chest above their logo like they do!?! Before I close this post I have to add is what an awesome game this was to watch from beginning to end even when the chips were unfairly down, Team USA NEVER gave up!!! I have long been enthralled in the game since the inception of women's soccer and in this team (USA) since the days of Hamm, Foudy, Chastain, Lilly and this is the best game I have ever seen since Team USA's 1999 World Cup victory. I am honored and so freaking excited with what this team did today and how they never wavered and came from behind to win with one player less than the opponent (Brazil). Despite all the bad calls against our American team they kept playing each minute with more heart and determination. Despite the unjust yellow cards, the unheeded red card (against Buehler which put us one player down), the disgusting second attempt at a free kick by Marta to tie the game (1-1) in regular time, the stupid yellow card against Solo after she justly complained that she had not moved when Cristiane attempted and missed her free kick before Marta was given the second chance at it...Team USA never flinched or allowed their heads to drop. Despair was not in their vocabulary today!!! Despite all this adversity, madness and indignation served up to fans of Team USA, our players reminded us that they have been though worse; that they have always persevered and today would be no different. They would not give up so neither should we [the fans].
